Let’s Get Started!
Interested Applicants-
We are thrilled you have taken an interest in finding out more information about what our program has to offer!
An apprentice in the Plumbing and Pipefitting industry is a person who is engaged in learning a trade by working with and assisting a qualified Journeyman in all phases of the Plumbing and Pipefitting industry. The apprentice program provides on-the-job training as well as industrial construction installations. Each apprentice will be required to pass local code requirements and work with owner tools and equipment such as pipe machines and cutting torches. An apprentice will also be exposed to blue print reading, drafting, mathematical calculations and computations related to the industry.
As an apprentice you are making a personal commitment to be in 5 year program. This includes on-the-job training and 280 hours of classroom instruction a year. The fees are minimal. You are responsible for your yearly tuition. Please note: Local 441 Union fees are separate. See more about our Local here: www.ua441.org.
Here’s how it works: the Local 441 Dispatcher will find you a job. Once you have a job, you will become an apprentice and start the 5 year program. School is on a rotational basis, for example: you would come to school one week, then go back to work for five weeks, then back to school for a week. A school year consists of six groups and seven rotations. Your week at school allows you to apply for unemployment for that week. If you live more than 60 miles outside the Wichita area you are eligible to stay at a hotel for the week provided by the school. If you are 170 miles or more you are able to come in on Sunday to help with your drive into Wichita.
